Alice frowned.
Joshua was used to Shelia's sharp tongue and knew that she disapproved of Alicia. Not wanting to upset Shelia,
he pretended not to hear and left the kitchen.
The more Shelia thought about it, the more frustrated she became. Pointing her finger at Alicia, she yelled, “All
you do is waste money! You contribute nothing to this family and you have no manners. Can't you see that
Joshua is exhausted? “Jesus, he can barely catch his breath!”
Alicia had heard enough and turned to look at Shelia. She looked at Joshua, who was eating calmly as if nothing
was happening.
He had been very insistent before, practically throwing himself at her, but now he pretended that none of that
had happened.
He never cared about her feelings or what she had been through.
It was always like that.
Nothing had changed, not even now.
A few days ago, when Joshua hadn't realized she was on her period, he'd wanted to sleep with her so badly that
he'd argued with Shelia just to get the chance. But now that he knew there wasn't a chance, he didn't even care
enough to intervene.
Alicia never expected Joshua to intervene on her behalf, but that didn't mean she let Shelia walk all over her.
“What are you looking at?” Shelia growled. “You live here, you depend on us, and | can't even tell you what |
think?”
Alicia struggled to contain her emotions.
He was in no position to start a direct confrontation with Shelia, not in the situation he found himself in.
Keeping his voice level, he asked calmly, “Mrs. Yates, do we have any herbal supplements for the soup? “The
best, most nutritious ones?”
Shelia looked at her suspiciously. “What do you need them for?”

Shelia immediately picked up on the sarcasm in Alicia's tone. Her eyes widened. “What kind of nonsense are you
spouting? Joshua is only twenty years old. There's no way he’s weak.”
Alice looked forlorn. “But Mrs. Yates, you were the one who said it first. You said you could hardly catch your
breath, didn't you?”
Shelia was momentarily speechless.
Joshua, for his part, began to sense that something was not right.
Although Alice's behavior seemed kind and harmless, her words disturbed him.
“Enough, both of you,” Joshua said firmly. “I just want to eat in peace.”
Alice grimaced internally.
“Fuck you!” he grew up to himself.
She had been willing to put up with anything, even preparing a meal to keep calm.
But now, the idea of cooking disgusted him.
Shelia was sitting next to Joshua. He wasted no tin badmouthing her. “I told you not to bring her, but you
wouldn't listen. She's nothing but trouble.”
Shelia's tone sharpened. “How much did she spend on that beauty treatment today? She wasted so much money
in just one day. “Can you afford to keep her by your side?”
Alicia didn't pay attention to Shelia's comments.
He opened the refrigerator, took out the most expensive herbs he could find, and placed them in the most
expensive container he could find.
At first glance, it looked like he was diligently preparing a meal.
When Joshua finished eating, he went up with Shelia to visit Jerald.
Knowing that Georgia would be arriving soon to take over the kitchen, Alice turned her attention to the fish tank
in the living room.
| have pulled out one of the prized fish. It was a rare breed that Shelia adored.
It was an expensive and delicate fish that required constant care.
Without thinking twice, Alice picked him up and dropped him into a pot of cold water, where he swam happily,
not knowing what awaited him.
Georgia soon arrived to help.
When she saw the untouched vegetables, she rolled her eyes in frustration. “You guys are so slow. When are we
supposed to eat?”
Alice calmly replied, “I was waiting for you to cook.”
"Me?" Georgia's tone turned sharp now that no one else was around. “Get real. | didn't respect you even when
you were Mrs. Yates. Now that you're just a lady, you'd better get your act together and do your part to avoid
being told off.”
Alicia gave a slight smile.
Georgia walked over and removed the lid from the pot. “What's cooking here?”
The moment she lifted the lid, the fish inside jumped out, splashing water all over Georgia's face.
Startled, her hand slipped and knocked over the pot.
The expensive pot fell to the ground with a crash, breaking into pieces.
While Georgia stood frozen, Alice picked up the fish and put it back in the tank.
Shelia, hearing the commotion, rushed down the stairs. “What's going on? What happened?”
By the trecovered Georgia, she saw Alice crouching down, calmly picking up the broken pieces.
Before Georgia could explain, Alicia spoke up. “Mrs. Yates, please don't be angry with Georgia. She's getting
older and her eyesight isn't what it used to be. That's why she accidentally broke it.”
Georgia's eyes widened in disbelief. “No, Mrs. Yates, that’s not what happened...”

Georgia knew Alicia was right. She had overturned her, and now guilt silenced her.
Shelia noticed Georgia's hesitation and asked sternly, "So, was it really you who broke it?"
"Mrs. Yates, it's not what you think..." Georgia began to protest.
Without warning, Shelia slapped him.
"Fantastic! The cost will cdirectly from your salary."
Georgia clutched her cheek, silently seeing, her gaze filled with hatred toward Alicia.

In the hallway, Joshua approached her.
He noticed that he had a small cut on his finger, from which blood was slowly running.
Alice took a handkerchief and put it on the wound. “I'm hurt, so | guess | can't cook.”
Joshua had been watching the whole scene.
He looked at her intently with an unwavering gaze.
"You've changed a lot since the divorce."
