Alicia had just arrived hwhen she picked up the phone to reassure Monica about her safety.

Hearing his voice, Monica's relief was palpable. "Caden hasn't bothered you, has he?"

Alice looked at her bandaged arm and quietly replied, "No."

It had been Joshua who had stood up to her.

To calm her nerves, Alice drank swater.

"Monica, I'm going to the Yates mansion tomorrow."

Monica's concern was evident. "What if something unexpected happens? You're completely alone."

Alice gave a small giggle. “Staying away doesn't make your life any easier. It’s worth the risk.”

She knew she had to escape the vicious cycle of revenge. The longer she persisted, the more damaging it would

be to her friends.

Monica, accepting Alicia's decision, offered her help. "What can | do to help?"

After a brief pause, Alice replied, "Could you findsbooks?"

"What kind of books are you looking for?"

After the call, Alice took a shower, but in the process accidentally aggravated a burn blister. The pain was sharp

and reminded her of the incident at the restaurant.

When the police had arrived that night, chaos had broken out as the crowd dispersed. Only Caden had stepped

forward, calmly soothing his burn with ice from a plate.

His simple act had affected her deeply, providing unexpected comfort in the midst of the confusion.

Back in the present, he applied more ointment to his arm.

That night, as she lay awake, events replayed in her mind. Uneasy, she finally sent a message to Caden: “Thank

you very much.” Only after sending it did she realize the typo.

Panic set in as she tried to remember the message, but in her French state, she accidentally deleted it.

Overwhelmed, she sighed heavily and massaged her temples.

Caden's message cafter a brief pause: "Thinking about me? What exactly?"

Breathless, Alice managed to reply: “I'm sorry, that was a typo. “I meant to say thank you very much.”

“Why didn't you correct it then?” Caden asked.

"| ended up deleting the message by mistake," Alicia explained.

“That seems like a cliché way to admit your feelings,” Caden texted back.

Alice opened her eyes in surprise.

Admit feelings?

Caden had a gift for saying things that overwhelmed her.

Even through the digital screen, she could almost imagine his mocking smile.

He was as charming as he was infuriating.

Alice rubbed her hot cheeks, silently scolding herself. She assured herself that it had only been a typo: everyone

made mistakes.

Once she had regained her composure, she replied, “Thank you for taking care of my arm tonight.”

“One sentence? That's all the thanks | get? It seems insincere,” Caden replied.

She understood his point.

"I'll make sure my thanks aren't just words. You can count on it," he replied.

At first, Caden smiled at his message.

But then a sudden memory crossed his mind, and his smile faded. | put the phone aside, bored.

Alice's next message made her phone vibrate. "Sendyour address and I'll mail you a thank you gift."

“No need. Keep it,” Caden replied.

Alice was bewildered.

| felt an inexplicable chill.
